I have hired the most phenomenal person ever and she’s honest, loyal, hard-working, thoughtful, intelligent, and she has mastered a wide range of skills. That employee is ME!
My previous post Diversify Your Work With Multiple Streams Of Income clarified my need to diversify my employment and gave you “17 Reasons To Have Multiple Streams Of Income”. So I’m going to tell you about some of my business diversifications by starting with a beauty company.
My Mother And My Former Career
As you are well aware by now, my mother is “aging gracefully” although I still don’t see much of the “aging” part. One of the main reasons that my mother has such great skin is because she has always taken care of it.
When Alyssa was born I didn’t want to leave her with a babysitter or at a daycare. I wanted to see her first everything, but we needed more income than her father brought home. After much research, I decided to become an Avon Sales Representative.
People told me that I would not make money “selling Avon” and that old ladies did that job. I didn’t listen to any of them. Stupidity isn’t one of my traits, so I ignored all of the negative people and started my Avon business with one customer, me. That quickly grew to two customers, me and Mom.
My mother has been a faithful user of Avon skin products forever. Fads come and go, but Avon has constantly brought the latest and most advanced skin care technology to the public.
After a little over seven years of selling Avon products, my business rocked. I had 1500 customers pre-Internet days, delivered 3000 Avon books every two weeks, and had “Avon Day” in my home every two weeks. My customers loved it because they could drop by anytime that day, pick up their orders and see many of the new products I had displayed on nicely decorated tables.
My resume always includes the four awards I won during my tenure at Avon:
- Avon Mrs. P.F.E. Albee Awards for Sales Volume (1994-1999)
- Avon President’s Recognition – Spirit of Avon Award for customer satisfaction
- Avon President’s Recognition – #1 in District Sales Increase (1997-1998)
- Avon President’s Recognition – #2 in District Sales Volume (1997-1998)
- Avon President’s Recognition – #3 in District Sales Volume (1996-1997)
While I was thinking about diversifying my employment, I thought about Avon which is now on the Internet. Why not do something that I enjoy and am good at doing? That’s exactly what I’m going to do!

Oh wait! We only wish Avon sold the men in their catalog! However, they do sell men’s products like cologne. 😉

Yes, handbags. This handbag is my current favorite. Even my daughter would approve of this one for me and that’s saying A LOT!

Can you believe that Avon sells shoe wear? Avon sells boots! I love these boots! I want these boots!
Avon Sells Bath And Body Products
Avon has fantastic bath and body products that are not only great for you, but make such nice gifts.
Avon Sells Jewelry
I have some 22 year old Avon jewelry and it still looks the same as the day I bought it. I kid you not! There has been no tarnishing or anything! Avon has fun, long lasting, fashionable jewelry!
Avon Sells Apparel – Clothes
Avon sells clothes! I have a zebra striped blouse that I bought from Avon about 20 years ago and it just keeps on looking great! Not only does it wear well, it is STILL in fashion!
Avon Sells Makeup
My favorite lip color/lipstick in the whole world is Beyond Color Plumping Lip Color in Twig. I absolutely love this lipstick and it is my main color and has been for 22 years! Not only does the lipstick wear well and doesn’t dry out my lips, but the Twig color looks so great with my red hair.
Avon Sells Skin Care For Men And Women
Now we get back to my mother. Yes, Avon sells skin care products. These products will keep you looking younger. They have been part of my mother’s arsenal against aging and I would say it is working quite well because she does NOT look 71 years old. She took this picture with her computer on her last birthday in January.

I have to say to everyone, if you care for your face and body it will serve you well. I am grateful that I listened to my mom who also used Avon. I love the Anew products – they work. Our skin needs the nourishment it loses all day. It will repair itself at night. Don’t ever go to bed with your makeup on, drink a lot of liquids, do not smoke or be a sun goddess, and when you are my age your skin will defy age. I still have the jewelry from 25 years ago and I marvel that it still has not tarnished at all. I love the perfume Imari and it is one of my favorites. I loved it when Sherry was a rep. I went to everyone of her meetings and got lots of loot free, lol. Alyssa grew up with Avon all around in the house. She thought everyone had Avon in their homes, lol. thanks Sherry
