Yes, It’s A Restaurant – Dirty Dick’s Crab House, Nags Head, NC

Although the name really threw me off quite a bit, I must tell you about my visit to a restaurant during my trip to the Outer Banks in North Carolina called Dirty Dick’s Crab House. To begin, this is the marketing slogan found on all the restaurants brochures and menus:

“Dirty Dick’s Crab House is all about the FUN…in fact, the only thing we are serious about is our Seafood, Fresh Seafood served Daily.”

Rather ingenious although a bit nasty if you have a nasty mind.

The whole place was open, friendly and casually decorated with lots of red and white. The food was quite good, but the cocktail sauce was PHENOMENAL!

Let me show you some of the food we ordered to eat…

Mmmmmmmm…Hot, crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside french fries sprinkled with salt!

The sampler platter was just that…a sample of all kinds of food. The crawfish on the top was a food that was beyond my ability to consume it. When I broke the crawfish in half, all kinds of liquid poured out and I could see guts. Sorry, but that’s not my thing, so I passed on sampling a taste of that one. Besides, the eyes kept staring at me too.

The vegetables were yummy! They were not limp at all. The zucchini, squash, carrots and onions were still firm – cooked all the way through, but firm. Vegetables cooked like that retain a bit of natural sweetness. Have you ever noticed that to be true?

Of course, the seafood was divine. All kinds of delicious little critters like shrimp, crab and scallions.

Which brings us to the cocktail sauce.

I could have poured it in a cup and drank it like water.

Dirty Dick’s Crab House makes their own cocktail sauce, so it is always fresh and at optimum flavor. I dipped everything in it including the french fries!

So did that whet your appetite for more? I hope so because my next post is going to be my brother’s wedding…on the beach in the beautiful Outer Banks. Are you ready?
