Tell The Truth Thursday – Crayons

By Sherry Riter 7 Comments

Tell The Truth Thursday

Welcome to “Tell The Truth Thursday” where the question that has been posted in my right side bar gets answered by me and you! Did you prepare your post and are you ready to drop your URL into the Linky so that we all can follow? Grab the thumb above linking it back to this blog posting and let’s get started…

The question this week is :

If you were a crayon, what color would you be??

I loved to color as a child. I would spend hours tracing the outlines with a dark color and then lightly coloring inside the lines. It was always a peaceful activity.

I don’t really color any more, but every once in a while, Alyssa and I buy a coloring book and sit down together. We always laugh, talk and reminisce about our childhood experiences. Just another non-conventional way that I have tried to connect with my daughter.

The smell of crayons is such a lovely fragrance which brings to mind…

school

laughter

sharing

peeling back the crayon paper and trying to keep it in a large circle which often proved to be a monumental task

stretching out, flat on my tummy, in the sunlight streaming through the window with a pile of coloring books

coloring so long that the crayon left an indention on my middle finger

fat crayons in first grade and skinny ones a few years later

So many lovely memories associated with something as simple as a crayon.

I keep a box of crayons at all times – usually a box of Crayola 120 count with the built-in sharpener. Yes, I have the supreme crayons now. Some things about aging aren’t so bad. As a matter-of-fact, I also have a box of 36 crayons too. I don’t think I could actually have too many crayons.

In keeping with the question tonight, I would have to say that if I could be a crayon, I would choose to be a blue crayon. One that reflected the vast space and calming peace of a blue sky on a summer’s day speckled with white, fluffy clouds.

The relaxing blue sky

A crayon that would bring back memories of running in the sunshine, playing catch with Dad, rubbing baby oil on Mom’s back so she could tan, and swinging high trying to catch the clouds. Of course, my favorite memory of a blue crayon was with my sweet daughter, Alyssa and involved twelve inch high letters.

The relaxing blue sky

Crayons will always be fondly woven into the memories of my childhood and motherhood.

A-a-lyssa-a-a-a…

Come here. I want to color with you.

Presently sniffing all the crayons in her 120 count crayon box.
Your sky blue crayon friend,

The Redhead Riter

Funny you should pick blue and reference clouds, exactly what my Wednesday post was about 😀

If I get time I'd love to do "What color crayon I would be," we'll see how my time goes. 🙁

I color with dark lines and shading inside and teaching my children how to do it. 🙂

This exercise was a ton of fun to write. I enjoyed your color choice; mine is burnt orange/gold. Thanks for organizing it!

Everytime you mention your daughter it takes ME back to earlier years. I can remember my mom calling to me A-a-lyssa-a-a-a… much like you. I have always loved to color. I think it's something that never leaves us. As for my color… that's something I'll have to ponder for a while.
