Rockin’ Friends Spotlight – Variety Is The Spice Of Life

By Sherry Riter 6 Comments

“Much of the vitality
in a friendship
lies in the honoring of differences,
not simply in
the enjoyment of similarities.”
~Anonymous~

Hopefully, you’ve looked in the mirror a time or two and found that the reflection you see is someone you like if not love and you enjoy spending time with that person.

Would you like every one of your friends to be exactly like you?

Personally, I think it would be boring! No, don’t take that wrong. I’m not THAT boring, but if there was not a variety of personalities in the people we call friends, life would hold no surprises or differences day-to-day.

I’m glad that people are as different as the flowers in a garden and that is part of why I find humans so interesting. The vast differences in individual talents, preferences and appearances is mind boggling. Think about it…no one looks exactly alike; every fingerprint is different; talents are diverse; and preferences in everything from favorite color to personality characteristics.

What draws us to our friends and spouse?

The answer is easy…similarities and differences. We can compare it to the botanical garden. The red Rose has velvety petals and smells indescribably lovely, but the silky petals of the Gardenia with it’s strong sweet scent is equally beautiful and desirable. Our friends are like flowers – different, but all are wonderful and add a different twist to the experiences in our lives!

This is the weekly post where I spotlight my Rockin’ Friends who are the Top Nine active participants and loyal followers in my community! If you want to be mentioned here next week, then all it takes is to come in and start chatting with everyone in my community.

With a big thank you for their participation and friendship, here are the Rockin’ Friends this week in order of most participation:

  • Katlupe at Homesteading on the Internet
  • Lori at Lori’s LOLz
  • Marlene at Marlene’s Many Hats
  • Mama Penguin at Keeper of the Penguins
  • Lisa at Conversationalpackrat’s blog
  • Bernice at Ramblings of a Woman
  • Kristi at The Child Sensitive Communication Grid
  • Bry at Embracefire Fitness
  • Jen at Thoughts of a Working Mom

This week the special spotlight is shining on Lori of Lori’s LOLz. Lori’s “About Me” is so interesting (I suggest you read the whole thing) and part of it reads as follows:

“Currently, I am president of the Colorado Coalition of Cyberschool Families (CCCF), an alliance of passionate parents who have come together to be powerful and vocal advocates for cyberschools and virtual learning in Colorado.

My newest venture is becoming an Herbalife Distributor to improve my nutritional well-being and to share this through the use of quality herbal nutrition products.”

All the photos on Lori’s post called “Civil Air Patrol…The Best Kept Secret of the U.S. Air Force!” are wonderful! It is filled with so much patriotism!

I love that this particular“Wordless Wednesday” wasn’t wordless! It’s a great peek inside Lori’s mornings.

I clicked on the picture on the post called “Wordless Wednesday! Shhh…they’re working so nicely!” Lori’s children are so studious and appear to be so smart! I loved the photo. I know that you are so proud of them not only because they are your children, but because they have accomplished so much!!

“10 Reasons to Enroll in an Online School” is a great list and I also enjoyed the added items that were listed in the comments. If I could go back, I would definitely home school my daughter. Public schools today are just not like they were back when I was young.

I’m so glad that I’ve been able to get to know Lori better since she has become active in my community and by reading her blog. Be sure to add Lori’s LOLz to your blogroll, but also come over and chat with Lori in my community.

The basic idea for the community challenge this week started with an idea that was sent to me by Katlupe at Homesteading on the Internet I think that everyone enjoyed getting to know each other even better. The biggest participant in the challenge was Lori at Lori’s LOLz! Obviously, it was just Lori’s week! Congratulations Lori and thank you for being such a great Rockin’ Friend! We all appreciate the effort you have made to get to know us better and supporting our individual blogging efforts.

For everyone mentioned in the top nine this week, feel free to grab the Rockin’ Friend badge below and thank you for your participation!!

Hey Gal! That garden is BEAUTIFUL! Is that a picture you took? Ever since we went to Tennessee, I have been infatuated with gardens. It was Absolutely gorgeous, but this picture even makes it look blah.

As far as my friends being like me, I wouldn't want that. I mentioned on a BF discussion this morning about being so indecisive (one of my less admirable traits), I tend to pick friends who are more assertive than myself, so they will give me honest opinions when I asked their advice! LOL! I always tell people I'm a follower and not a leader. For an example, I told the preacher's wife I would like to help with our "Sunday School breakfast". I MEANT HELP. Instead, she got someone to "help me". I started out wanting to fix coffee and homemade Cinnamon Rolls, but changed my mind 3 times before settling on Bacon, sausage, eggs and Pancakes! All because I couldn't make up my mind! I wouldn't wish my indecisiveness on anyone!

I just can't seem to get on here enough. I've been try to get on Blog Frog and participate in several discussions every morning since we got our new modem (it's quite a bit faster), but it still not enough. Well, at least I was in your "top commentators" list, that makes me feel better. So, what is the difference between the two. "Rockin'Friends" and Top commentators?

By the way, Have you checked your e-mail recently? I'm still curious about the music thing.

    God Bless!

    PJ

I am going to stop by some of those blogs, I always love finding new blogs to read.

Our differences are really what make us beautiful! Life would be boring if we were all the same, we need to embrace what makes us unique!
