I “Vaunt” New Cabinets

By Sherry Riter 31 Comments

I remember the first time I saw the movie “Love At First Bite” with George Hamilton and Susan Saint James. I don’t think I ever stopped laughing at George’s “Count Dracula” accent and sure enough, thirty plus years later I am still mimicking him.

I love cabinets. The basic box shape just screams of organization which brings about peace to any environment. Cabinets are vastly different and yet hold the same element of being a place to store things behind a door. In the kitchen, cabinets line the walls hiding neatly organized spices, food, pots, pans and dishes.

When I was younger and we visited my grandmother, who I fondly called Mam-Maw, my chore to help the women in the kitchen was to fold all dishcloths and rearrange them in the cabinet drawer. I would spend hours meticulously folding the brightly colored dishtowels while Mam-Maw and I talked, sang, cooked and took bites of yummy food “before” dinner. It was during those times and many others that I saw the tender side of Mam-Maw. I had her all to myself and vice-versa. She would often act silly and start laughing so hard that she would double over with laughing pains in her stomach. Her soft, unwrinkled, youthful face is still in my mind’s eye and the memories in the kitchen amongst her clean, organized, shiny pine cabinets are treasured.

Cabinets are also known as cupboards and they set the tone of the kitchen. Constructed in many different shapes, sizes, materials and colors the end product is limited by only one’s imagination. Cabinets have come a long way since the first planks were hammered on the way creating a boxed shape with shelves.

I “vaunt” (said like “want” but with the letter “v” instead of “w”)…I “vaunt” you to have a look at the pretty cabinets…

Coffin cabinets! Our kitchen is so awful – have no business even mocking coffin cabinets… We have a tiny outdated galley kitchen. I think we'll be an old retired couple by the time we actually have a nice kitchen…

I liked the first picture best. The coffin ones are just plain wrong. I am sure the person who has thing think's they're lovely, but who is going to buy a house with cabinets like that?

Yesterday I spent several hours trying to get the cabinets in my daughters new condo to look good. Nothing helped. Perhaps we should just replace them with a few coffins. 🙂

Oh my! These are so stunning (except the coffin cupboards, creepy, but they do fit the vampire motif!). They are like museums, I'd be afraid to use the kitchen, lol!

Great kitchens, but I don't think I could live with the coffin ones. Might be scared of what might be in them…

    Have a great day!

    I "vaunt" that first kitchen!

The coffin cabinets…well, if you're decorating your house a la Halloween, then, okay, they work.

My husband picked up a copy of "Love at First Bite" on DVD in some discount bin recently for the older kids to watch. Cheesy but cute. 🙂

Hey girlie! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog again. I LOVE it when I see your pretty smiling face pop in! I will definitely let you know when the documentary is complete. I can not wait! :0)

I LOVE these amazing kitchens and cabinets you've displayed here today…well, except for the ones that look like coffins. YUCK! I could never buy that house with those cabinets. Well, that is unless Edward Cullen was included. :0) Oh yeah, Edward doesn't sleep in a coffin. He actually doesn't sleep at all! So no, I'll pass.

I am so pleased to say that my marvelous and totally awesome husband just completed building our brand new home just last year and we have an incredible kitchen. So, hopefully, I won't be having to worry about new cabinets anytime soon, thank goodness! However, if I had to chose one of the kitchens you posted, it would probably be #1 or #3. Although I'm not a huge fan of white cabinets, these kitchens are simply gorgeous. From what I can tell from the photo, I prefer the cabinets in #7 out of all of them, sans the ultra contemporary hardware. I also would prefer not to have quite so many glass panels in the upper cabinets. I think a few are great but I think they went a little overboard on this one. Also, I would have chosen a lighter granite. I love the look of sleek black granite but I'm not a fan of black with such a dark wood cabinet choice. Those pendant lights are amazing!

Again, thanks for sharing those photos. I absolutely love interior design and decorating. It has truly become a passion for me. If I were healthy, I would go back to school and get a degree. But for now, I just read and learn all I can from all the various websites, message boards, blogs, etc. And drool. I do lots and lots of drooling. I hope I did not mess up your page too bad. :0)

    TTFN!

Coffin type cabinets? WEIRD! We got new cabinets about 3 or 4 years ago which I like. But one of the kids has already broken one of the doors.
