Being scared, afraid and full of fear is not a fun experience for me, but I know some people love experiences like Halloween haunted houses or riding big roller coasters. All I can say is, “More power to ya’!”
What Is A Phobia?
I have a few phobias, so let’s define that word first…
Definition of PHOBIA
: an exaggerated and often disabling fear usually inexplicable to the subject and having sometimes a logical but usually an illogical or symbolic object, class of objects, or situation
“Disabling” seems to be the key word in that definition. A phobia isn’t that scare you get that just makes you scream for a second. It is a disabling fear that makes the whole world stop because you are unable to think or react. That’s not a good feeling!
The Story Of Phobias
I have Polyphobia which is the abnormal fear of many things, but I used to really have some awful phobias that I no longer have to think about or fear.
You also probably know that not only me, but my daughter also has Arachnophobia which is the fear of spiders.
Some people have Mageirocophobia which is the fear of cooking. Oh my! The symptoms can range from being slightly nervous to a sense of doom, feeling light headed and nauseated.
I don’t have a fear of cooking.
I wonder if the people who are scared of cooking also have Cibophobia which is a fear of food?
I don’t have a fear of food.
Then there are people that have symptoms such as rapid breathing, irregular heartbeat, shortness of breath, nausea, sweating and a feeling of dread when they see vegetables because they have Lachanophobia.
I don’t have a fear of vegetables.
Since I don’t fear cooking and I don’t fear food, it’s pretty safe to say that I also don’t have Phagophobia which is the fear of swallowing or of eating food.
That must be terrible! I’m so glad I don’t have a fear of eating!
I can’t imagine having Alliumphobia. I put garlic in so many dishes! Yeah, alliumphobia is the fear of garlic.
I don’t have a fear of garlic.
Considering the amount of hair I have on my head, it is a good thing I don’t have Chaetophobia because that is the fear of hair!
I don’t have a fear of hair.
I spend plenty of time without clothes, so I’m pretty sure I don’t need to worry about Gymnophobia. That’s a fear of nudity or the sight of a naked part or body.
I don’t have a fear of nudity, but I’m not going to bare it all on my blog either. Just saying!
I probably should have Gamophobia and many people do have a fear of marriage probably because they have been hurt badly in previous relationships.
Although I’ve been divorced, I do not fear marriage.
One of the great things about marriage is…um…sex. It’s been a long time since I even breathed that word, so I figured I was safe to bring it up today. Genophobia is the fear of sex or sexual relations. Considering all the kids being born, I think lots of people don’t have genophobia.
I don’t have a fear of sex.
That’s all I’m going to say about that subject. I promise. LOL
Don’t you think my little red toy poodle is cute? Are you scared of her? If you have a morbid fear of dogs, you have Cynophobia.
I’m not scared of Bella, but I am very cautious of dogs and a bit scared of their big teeth.
Well, I will end this phobia talk by saying that I’m glad I don’t have Androphobia (fear of men) or Anthophobia (an abnormal and persistent fear of flowers) or Sarmossaphobic (fear of dating). This especially is true when a man is bearing flowers when he takes me on a date.
Yeah, nice.

Well… I for one am glad you don’t have Mageirocophobia!! Just think of all the wonderful recipes and pictures of tasty looking food I’d miss out on if you did! 🙂 Didn’t realize there were so many different food related phobias… I pretty much only fear Chinese food… I bet I wasn’t the only one who knew you wouldn’t be proving you didnt suffer from the Gymnophobia! No Cynophobia here either, but I bet Bella is glad you don’t have it! Well… now we know what the fear of men is called, but whats the fear of women called? Does the fear of violent red headed women have it’s own phobia as well? 🙂 Than you for sharing my friend! <3
Sherry Riter says
