LOTS of fun!
On Sunday, August 10, 2014, we went to the 31st Annual Carytown Watermelon Festival and had a wonderful time.
The first thing on the agenda was to eat watermelon. A good sized bowl of sweet, juicy, cold, delicious watermelon was just one dollar. Although the lines were long, they moved swiftly. Plus, the watermelon was so refreshing in the hot summer weather that it was worth the short wait.
It was nice that the bowl was actually a substantial size and so fresh!
Mmmmmmmm…so delicious and juicy.
Alyssa’s bowl of watermelon didn’t last long either.
Everyone enjoyed the sweet watermelon treat. Friends and families of all ages.
There were definitely ALL ages attending the watermelon festival. There were soooooooooooo many people attending the festival too.
Many of the store window dressings were watermelon themed.
Of course, there were some unique things to see like watermelon pants in bright pink. Oh yeah!
My daughter always seems to gravitate to the purses and jewelry. LOL
There seemed to be vendors for everything. We even saw an income tax booth!
One of the stores on Cary Street has beautiful chandeliers and we often slip into the store just to browse. Even more important, they have air condition and it was a blessed detour to cool off.
While at the watermelon festival we also saw a pig! It was a miniature pig and so cute! Alyssa couldn’t help but touch it. My daughter loves animals.
There were dogs everywhere! I think the most snazzy dressed dogs were the two that were decked out in green costumes with watermelons, flags and sunglasses.
From dogs to costumes to dogs with dyed fur…there were all kinds of dogs.
Pools were set up to for the dogs to cool off in and many took advantage of the water because it was pretty hot.
A green faced mime stood along side the main walking path and was great. I don’t know how he stood there in the heat.
There were 60 bands at the 31st Annual Carytown Watermelon Festival. When we were there, the band at the end of the mile long festival was called the Billy Joe Trio.
I love watching bands sing whether they are big or small. Music is such a great expression of art and emotions.
Not many people danced, but there was one woman that danced quite a bit. I think she was a bit drunk.
My daughter is always so fun to be with whether we are at a fun event like the 31st Annual Carytown Watermelon Festival or just spending time at home. I sure love that sweet girl.
Who is that redhead sitting on the curb, listening to the band play and resting from all that walking in the heat?
Uh huh. It’s just me.

…and no mention of doing the “Watermelon Craw”? 🙂 That watermelon did look delicious, but I’d have needed somewhere in the neighborhood of three bowls of that size. 🙂 Thank you for sharing!

Can one ever really get enough watermelon? I don’t think so. 😉
