FADE IN:
INTERIOR LIVING ROOM – SHERRY’S HOME – DAY
The minimally decorated living room is clean and bathed in afternoon sunlight. A large leather couch sits against the far wall. A blue and white crocheted afghan is crumpled on the middle cushion.
A computer is turned on in the light colored armoire on the opposite wall. A playlist of songs by STING is softly playing on the computer.
BELLA, a red toy poodle slowly leaps onto the couch. After circling the crocheted afghan three times, she settles in the folds and rests her head on the highest fold.
SHERRY is sitting on the desk chair and stares blankly out the window.
We see tiredness in her eyes as they focus on the crystal vase of twelve dead red roses outside the window. She twists a curl around her finger absentmindedly.
(even toned)
Bella? Do you want to come over here and sit on my lap?
BELLA
(eyelids flutter slightly before completely closing)
SHERRY
Are you so tired that you don’t want to come over here?
BELLA
(no movement, but a soft snore can be heard)
A black and white cat walks past the window pausing to look at Bella then scurries past.
Since Sherry has been sick all day, she gets out of the desk chair and walks over to the couch. She lays down with her head on the crumpled afghan next to Bella.
BELLA
(lifts one eyelid and then closes it again)
SHERRY
(closes her eyes)
I love you Bella.
The soft strains of Sting singing “Fields Of Gold” floats around the room.
STING
(voice singing)
Will you stay with me, will you be my love?
Among the fields of barley
We’ll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we lie in fields of gold
See the west wind move like a lover so
Upon the fields of barley
Feel her body rise when you kiss her mouth
Among the fields of gold
Sherry drifts to sleep.
Bella is still sleeping and softly snores occasionally.
