Fantasywire Wire Fairy Sculptures By Robin Wight

By Sherry Riter 16 Comments

Fantasywire’s Robin Wight, a sculptor located in Staffordshire England, creates dramatic scenes using wrapped stainless steel wire formed into fairies clinging to trees, climbing the side of the house, perched on fences and benches, swinging on a tree and many other whimsical poses. Robin Wight said:

“In 1920 two little girls photographed fairies at the bottom of their garden and created a news sensation. As we know, the photographs were fake, but the story captured the imagination of people who wanted to believe.

A couple of years ago, while trying out my new camera, I took the picture (right) in the woods at the bottom of my garden. It was only later when looking at the results that I spotted the figure in the tree (above). Its obviously a trick of the light coming through the trees. What else could it be?

Whatever it is, it captured my imagination and inspired me to use the idea in my sculpture.”

6 foot Dandelion

This sculpture is a 6 foot standalone dandelion clock with floating seeds.
It is a 2 meter stem 500mm diameter dandelion seed head.
Price: £350 or $598

These 6 foot standalone dandelion seed heads make an ideal garden sculpture. They look amazing against the sky and on frosty mornings. As they catch the wind the seeds wave in the breeze and if you mount them on a tube, the whole dandelion will rotate like a weather vane to face the direction of the wind.

The Rose fairy is carrying a rose to make sure she looks friendly rather than menacing. The photos were not taken on the roof she was made for, so she doesn’t fit the ridge correctly. Each fairy is made to an exact fit to the location required.

Heart of Stone

I think the heart of stone is such a wonderful addition to the wire fairy sculptures. Such a unique idea! Robin said:

“I wanted to add something as a makers mark which hopefully becomes a trademark of my work. That’s when I came up with the idea of burying something inside the sculpture. A stone heart seemed the perfect idea to make it extra special, romantic even, as well as providing a trademark. A suitable heart shaped pebble is selected and engraved with the owners name(s) or any other message you might want to come up with.

The stone heart is then placed in the location of a human heart inside the skeleton before the flesh (so to speak) starts to be added.

I always take a photo so the owner(s) can see the heart and have the evidence to back up the story when it becomes a talking point with their friends and family.”

I love all of your work, but I am unable to afford it. I am trying very hard to get the correct wire, and have ordered what I thought would be the same as you use. Was sent from a co. in NJ us such a small amount and at a very high price, please tell me where I can order the exact wire and in a larger amount I will order from the UK or where ever you get your supply from. I plan to attempt making a fairy for my back yard this winter, please respond. yours truly, Mary
