One of the most important places in a home is the bathroom. At least it is to me! So the age old question is…Which is better, a bath in the tub or a shower?
Wait!
Before you answer, see if you change your mind after I tell you the pros and cons of both.
Tub Bathing Negative
I have to start with the most obvious negative for taking a bath in the tub. When you sit in a tub full of water, it becomes dirty because of all the dirt, deodorant, body hair, skin flakes, cologne/perfume, etc. that is sloughing off your body. Then you stand up and towel dry, but all those things are still sticking to your body!
Showering Positive
The complete opposite is true with taking a shower. You stand in the shower and all the dirt, deodorant, body hair, skin flakes, cologne/perfume, etc. that is sloughing off your body goes right down the drain. Then you reach for the towel to dry off and there is no grime on your body. So you could take a tub bath and then before getting out, take a little shower to wash all the impurities off your body.
I could almost stop the whole discussion with just that one thing!!!
Tub Bathing Positive
For an effortless hour of relaxation, a candlelit warm, bubbly tub bath is hard to beat. All you have to do is sit down, stretch out in the water and let the warmth engulf your body. The pain in the aching muscles seems to just disappear somewhere in all that slippery water.
Showering Negative
The “correct” way to take a shower is standing up and THAT is the negative. No matter how much hot water streams from the showerhead, it just isn’t as relaxing as laying back in the tub. You can sit in the shower too, but it usually isn’t that comfortable and the water keeps splattering in your face.
Tub Bathing and Showering Positive
Yes, there are several positives that both tub bathing and showering have in common:
- The water feels wonderfully luscious.
- It’s a great way to begin and end the day.
- You can get squeaky clean.
- There is solitude, peace and quiet unless you decide to share some sexy bathing time and that’s another positive all by itself.
Bella And My Bathtime
Bella has a love-hate relationship with anyone taking a bath. On the one hand, she wants to be in there with us, but on the other hand she doesn’t want to get wet. While I shower, Bella is a faithful friend because she just waits and waits and paces and watches and lays down and waits and waits until I finally get out of shower. Unfortunately for Bella, I love to take very, very, very long showers.
Now we have gone full circle and back to the same question…
Which do you think is better, a bath in the tub or a shower?
Skip_D says
I almost always shower… partly because I have a very incommodious, uncomfortable tub… & I tend to take quick showers to conserve water & the energy to heat it… however, I love going to Hot Springs & “taking the waters” – a wonderful, long soak! …of course, shower, bath, or hot mineral water soak are all much more enjoyable when shared! 🙂
Sherry Riter says
LOL Yes, I think they are better shared too especially with a long massage afterwards! 😉
Skip_D says
yes indeed, that long massage is a great benefit!!! 😀
Sherry Riter says
Yep, massages are the best.
Skip_D says
I love the pictures of Bella watching you shower!!! 😀
Sherry Riter says
Yeah, well, we are both girls. 😀 LOL
Thanks!
Skip_D says
that’s for sure! 🙂

I used to always take a shower because modern houses normally have those small tubs that are really designed for children. Since I moved here, our deep clawfoot bath tub is …………what can I say? Like heaven! It is like you say, very relaxing and soothing. As you know, my legs are pretty bad and there is no way now that I could stand for long in a shower. I have been looking at new houses and the newer ones have showers with built in benches. That would be a plus, except most of them are low. I would need a custom stool that is a little higher. I could wash in the shower, then quickly go hop in the bathtub for a relaxing bath (since these houses we are checking out have each one separate, which I kinda like). Uh oh, I wrote too long a comment……….getting to be like “you know who” – the diva.
Sherry Riter says
LOL Your diva comment CRACKED ME UP! Yes, we all know how Joan The Diva goes on and on, but you would need another five or six comments in a row to really mimic her. LOL
The homes you are checking out sound great! I hope it works out so that you can have a tub and shower. That is truly the best of both worlds. A nice big garden tub with a separate shower…aaaaahhhhhhh. Makes me want to go jump in the tub now and I’ve already bathed. LOL
By the way, they make portable stools you can take in the shower. They are really handy for all ages. I wish I had one when I broke my toe! I didn’t even think of getting one! (rolling my eyes at myself)

Shower!!! I love to take showers. I’ve tried liking baths, but it’s just not the same for me! Thx for making me laugh. Your description for both pros and cons were true but so funny!
Sherry Riter says
😀 I’m glad I made you laugh!
Joan says
Shower!
Sherry Riter says
🙂
Joan says
That’s my answer!
Joan says
And my preference!
Joan says
The long and the short of it!
Joan says
I don’t see how that makes me a diva…
Joan says
…well, maybe that does make me a diva since this is my sixth reply! 🙂
Sherry Riter says
Duh!
Joan says
P.S. Great pictures of Bella watching you shower! 🙂
Sherry Riter says
Thanks!
