The Shopper And Non-Shopper Go Shopping

By Sherry Riter 16 Comments

I shop as little as possible whether it means going to a store or shopping online. I haven’t really figured out why I don’t like shopping except that it is very tiring when I have to walk from store to store. I also have a hard time choosing something to buy especially if it is a clothing item for me.

My daughter, however, can shop until she makes me drop.

I took Alyssa shopping on her birthday in April because she wanted some new clothes. Let me show you a bit of our excursion…

The Conversation While Shopping

“Mom, are you taking my picture?” Alyssa asked.

“Yes!” I said. “You are so beautiful and I want us to be able to remember this day!”

“Seriously, Mom, how many pictures are you going to take of me?”

I didn’t quite know how to answer, so I played it safe and said, “Um…I promise I won’t take too many.”

Alyssa simply looked at me and said, “Uh huh.”

I wonder why she said that to me? Surely she didn’t think I would really take lots of pictures of her!

So she walked around the store pretty much ignoring my constant camera clicking.

“You know,” I said, “People are going to think that you are a movie star!”

Yeah, that’s the look I got.

Alyssa went from store to store with me tagging along happily with camera in hand. We went all the way back to the corner of one store and I saw a nice padded bench where I planted myself while Alyssa started looking at the racks of clothing.

Shopping wasn’t so bad as long as I was able to sit still and just watch Alyssa do all the work. I finally put two and two together and understood why I see men just sitting while their wives go in and out of the dressing room.

I watched her intently.

Every little thing Alyssa did, I try to burn it into my memory.

“Mom, I hear the camera clicking,” Alyssa said.

I decided it was safer not to say anything, so I just sat quietly and looked around.

When did they start putting song videos in stores? It is kind of strange!

Why is it that the whole store has marble floors, carpeting and bright lights and yet the part we were in looked very rag tag? I mean, there were concrete floors albeit polished concrete.

There was also a totally exposed metal ceiling. THIS was the section that Alyssa thought had the best clothes. Alrighty then!

I did see something black and sparkly. That’s my style! However, I was really very comfortable just sitting.

Eventually the shopping was over!

“Alyssa, stand here and let me take your picture,” I said.

“Turn sideways a little bit so I can take another one,” I directed.

Alyssa didn’t say a word. I guess she had finally figured out that it was futile to try and oppose me. Besides, a picture doesn’t hurt nor did it cost anything!

It was all worth it. I had a marvelous time even if we were shopping!

    Oh, Mom!!!

…you know, you should be able to turn off the camera’s clicking shutter sound, so you can take stealth photos of her!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

You did get some great shots. I especially like the “uh huh” moment, when she’s rolling her eyes at you! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I don’t think I can turn off the clicking sound, but I will pull out the manual to check.

She’s a pro at the eye rolling LOL

I could really relate to this; I used to love to go shopping when I was a teenager and in my early 20’s as I got older, no more. I mostly shop online too. Of course it doesn’t help that things don’t fit as they used to either. I have found stores have less inventory and more of the inventory is online now as well. Your daughter is really beautiful!

I was spoiled because I used to make all my clothes so they fit perfectly. Now when I try something on it never feels as good as I know it can if I had made it. Plus, it is quite disheartening after trying on 30 shirts and walking away with none because they all just weren’t right. Maybe I’m too picky. LOL

Thanks! I think Alyssa is really beautiful too!

Good Morning. Your daughter is a great sport and very sweet young lady for letting you become a photo journalist for the day. I would not have been so gracious. I still don’t care to have my pic taken and at her age, it just wouldn’t have happened, especially by my Mom…lol. I know, not being a parent, I can’t truly understand, but I am a daughter to two mothers. Thanks, Dad…lol. So, I’ve assisted in carving out a piece of family history, reluctantly. Now I take photos of my nieces and they are such “hams”. Auto pose as soon as they see the phone go to eye level. Only in this generation does phone equate with a pictorial essay. Sheesh I’m getting old. Oh by the way, I love the evolution of Alyssa. Having curly hair, I have had mine straightened for special occaisions as well and love the look on every one. Then at midnight the coach turns into a pumpkin and the hair is curly again. I’ll stop blabbing and get to my point. It is very apparent that you and your daughter have a wonderful relationship, because the smile at the end of the shopping excursion tells it all….you’ll live happily ever after.

Thank you, Susanne. I do love Alyssa a whole bunch. I guess it shows. LOL

I think it is cute that your nieces are hams. They won’t ever feel awkward in front of the camera and will be pros at posing! Who knows, they could be the next super models!

Oh and I almost forgot…Wishing you and your family a happy and safe Memorial Day. If I may, I would like to remind everyone in your community to observe a moment of silence at 3:00pm on Monday to remember all who have who have protected our great country. Thank you.

          :o( That’s sad, but boyfriends come and go, so don’t lose hope. She has a lifetime of memories with you and eventually it will tug at her heart enough to bring her back. {{{hugsss}}}
