Friends Are Like Jelly Beans
Have you ever looked at a whole bin of jelly beans? They are basically the same shape and size, but are different colors and flavors. My favorite jelly beans are Jelly Belly jelly beans
Friends are like jelly beans.
Friends are people…human beings.
People look, act, think and feel differently, but when they are true friends, there is a common thread of emotion that ties them all together.
Friends care.
Friends are nice.
Friends say things to brighten your day.
Friends are honest.
Friends are helpful.
Friends want to talk or spend time with you.
Friends do things for you without being asked to do so.
Friends make time to listen to you.
Friends are sweet like jelly beans.
Growing up I did not have very many friends. As a matter of fact, if I were to go to my high school reunion, I dare say very few people would remember me. Of course, they would not recognize me because I now have long hair, wear makeup and am not a wallflower any more. But my point is that I was not popular nor was I really socially active in trying to fit in or have friends.
The past two years blogging has opened a whole new world of opportunity for friendships. Reaching out over the web has not been intimidating because I know who I am, where I came from, what I want to accomplish and the types of people I want to surround myself with to make the rest of my life enjoyable.
Since there is just one of me (Isn’t that such a shame?), I have to do all the work on my blog myself. The only way to have a blog read is to market it everywhere. That was the motivation initially for having a community, but as time passed, I have become friends with the people there. They are a very supportive group who promote each other’s blogs as well as chit chat about everything. They have truly become my friends and when the phone rings, it is always a pleasure spending time together.
During the past month I have also reached out to people on Twitter who have been equally supportive of my endeavors on the internet. There have been friendships formed with like-minded individuals who understand me. Isn’t that what we are all seeking – understanding and acceptance? Yes, I believe it is and I feel most thankful for my new friends and look forward to many years of friendship ahead.
When you are online, think about it…the person at the other end is real. They wake up, have families, jobs, homes, problems, goals and insecurities just like you do. People are not just words in a comment or picture on an avatar. They too are seeking the same things as you…a successful and happy life.
I guess I could change my blog profile to read…
Here I am. Just a woman with a heart full of emotion and a head full of memories, experiences and lessons learned who is seeking acceptance, understanding and jelly beans…I mean friends.

When I read your stuff, I always feel like you're just sitting next to me…talking about things…just like I do with my girlfriends.

Oh Red, I had to work hard for that number one spot this week! I was assisted quite a bit by Teresa, Paula, Meg and of course, Joan! Matter of fact, Joan got me fired up to reach that 1000 mark. Now I need a rest!
