“Mom, will you get the lint off my coat?” Alyssa asked before she went to work. Handing me the lint brush and extending her arms, she stood in her black peacoat poised and ready for me to remove all the white fuzzies.
The large lint brush smoothly rolled over inch after inch of the black cloth removing the white lint as it passed.
By the time she had made two revolutions, we were both quite satisfied with my efforts. After a brief kiss, she flew out the door.
I looked down at the once sticky paper that surrounded the brush. It no longer felt sticky at all and was covered with black “lint” from the peacoat.
The edge of the next sheet was slightly bent, so I pulled it a bit revealing a fresh adhesive surface. There was such a contrast between the two pieces. They were as different as night and day.
Each morning when the sun rises, we awaken, fresh and energetic full of sticky energy enabling us to grab tasks wholeheartedly with successful completion. By the time night rolls around, we are covered with stress, emotion, disappointment and unfulfilled tasks. All of our stickiness has been spent.
As long as we don’t lose sight of the fresh start tomorrow, we can continue to roll along until we exhaustedly drop into bed. Our subconscious repeats our mantra throughout the night that “Opportunities abound with each new day!“
Dust will gather and appear everywhere you don’t want it to be, but just peel back another layer and keep rolling. Grab every chance you get to enjoy life’s experience.
With the right attitude, all the fuzzies will be peeled away to reveal a fresh sheet of stickiness enabling us to vigorously roll through a new and successful day.
at the prospect of a new day,
a fresh try,
one more start,
with perhaps a bit of magic waiting
somewhere behind the morning…”

Sherry this is great advice, but we need to remember we are only given so many sheets to make up our life time. Before we know it we will be down to the empty roller. We need to somehow roll as much beauty and good things on our roller. We need to at the end of the day have rolled rainbows , butter fly kisses, lots of hugs, I love you's and there should be red spots on our knees from thanking our Lord for all the sticky and all that which seems bad but really is our growth and refinement. My roller is almost used up. I am so glad I can wad up each one I rip off and know that someone died that I may go back to live in a glorious place where the sticky turns to light filled with an abounding unending love.
Your mama loves you and Alyssa and misses seeing the two of you as we did. I wish you were both small and never had to grow up. I wish Brit and Aud were small too, how happy I would be.

One day at a time. Not just surviving with the hope of tomorrow. Living this day to its fullest extend.
…but tomorrow never comes…

Paula,
You are so right…one day at a time! That is so hard to do especially if you are depressed or fearful. I'm working really hard to live just for THIS moment.
Thanks!
