iPad2 Giveaway After a Dinner of Bugs on a Deserted Island

By Sherry Riter Leave a Comment

Cowpeas are Black eyed peas

Life changed dramatically when my daughter started driving, going on dates and working at a full time job. I tried to keep the same routine that had always worked so well before, but it didn’t take me long to realize that things were never going to be the same.

I rushed home after work to find that I was once again alone. Since I had to eat anyway, I half-heartedly decided to reheat last night’s black eyed peas, corn and chicken.

While the food was being warmed on the stove, I sat down to take a peek at my blog.

That was a mistake.

I forgot the food and commenced to blog, chat in my BlogFrog Community, talk to my Facebook and Twitter friends and surf the internet with wild abandon completely forgetting that I was hungry or that my food was getting hot.

Well, I forgot until the fire alarm began to sound because of the smoke caused by my burning food. Running to the kitchen, I quickly removed all the pots from the burners.

Eventually the smoke alarm stopped buzzing incessantly. I put some of the food on my plate and sat down at the dining room table.

All alone like a shipwrecked survivor on a deserted island, I stared at the odd shaped, charred vegetables which closely resembled bugs. Just then, the front door opened and my daughter walked in and said, “Wow Mom, it stinks in here. Were you trying to burn the place down. Obviously you could use some of this pizza.”

Handing me a box of lukewarm pizza, she kissed my cheek and rushed to her room saying over her shoulder, “I’ve already eaten!”

Hectic schedules lead to the family eating unhealthy fast food from take-out establishments or boxed food in my own kitchen. On top of that, everyone eats meals at different times, so there is no social interaction with each other either. How do I get everyone eating healthy food together?

Stay tuned next month to read my Genius Tip on how I beat this challenge!
