Love Is Always Beautiful

Hearts on Valentine's Day

Pink.

Red.

Hearts.

Chocolate.

Cards.

Fancy dinner.

Romance.

February 14th is Valentine’s Day, a holiday for the celebration of love and affection between intimate companions. Decorations have been up in the stores for this holiday since the day after Christmas and in some places, even before jolly St. Nick had slipped down the chimney.

Not to be a downer and spoil the day, but what if you aren’t in a relationship, your significant other isn’t all that significant any more or maybe they have already passed away? Does this day of red and pink hearts serve any purpose?

I’m going to stick my neck out and say yes.

Pink and Red on Valentine's Day

Does loving and being loved ever not serve a purpose any more? I think some of the most basic needs as a human being is to be loved and needed by others every day and not just by a spouse. Valentine’s Day with all it’s festiveness just adds to the joy of the wonderful emotional bond we feel with others that contribute happiness to our life.

While surrounded by all those gaudy decorations of pink and red hearts, take the time to remember those who love you and whom you love or have loved. I believe that love is a powerful emotion and often gets slighted when relationships turn sour. Broken hearts give love a bad name, but it doesn’t have to end all love.

The Notebook with James Garner, Gena Rowlands, Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams came on television three times in a row this weekend and I watched all three showings while working online.

I cried each time and more the last than the first.

I cry easily.

I think love is beautiful.

Actually, I don’t think there is anything more beautiful than love whether it be between lovers, parent and child, siblings or friends. Love when unrequited is so very sad because love when given freely is so gorgeous. You can’t have one without the other just like you can’t know joy without also experiencing sorrow.

Broken hearts happen.

It is just a fact of life.

I don’t think anyone escapes that painful experience.

Just because you and I are not lovers, I’m still going to say Happy Valentine’s Day. I hope you take the opportunity to express love to others and feel it reciprocated today, tomorrow and every day thereafter.

Love on Valentine's Day

Rockin' Friends Spotlight of the Week

This is the weekly post where I spotlight my Rockin’ Friends who are the Top Nine active participants and loyal followers in my community! If you want to be mentioned here next week, then all it takes is to come in and start chatting with everyone in my community.

With a big thank you for their participation and friendship, here are the Rockin’ Friends this week in order of most participation:

  • Carol at ArtMuseDogs
  • Kristi at The Child-Sensitive Communication Grid
  • Katlupe at Homesteading on the Internet
  • Paula at Love Is A Journey
  • Lori at Lori’s LOLz
  • PJ at PJ’s Prayer Line
  • Kim at The Zany Housewife
  • Aleta at Paws For Thought
  • Marlene at Marlene’s Many Hats

One of the fun discussions in the community this week asked the question:

If you had to make a choice, would it be peanut butter or jelly?

PJ replied: PEANUT BUTTER AND BANANA That’s my favorite snack – a Peanut butter and banana sandwich and a glass of milk.
Carol replied: All natural Peanut Better ~ hugs and namaste, c:)
Paula replied: First shopping trip in this new home country of mine:

DH wants jelly AND peanut butter. TO EAT AT THE SAME SANDWICH

      surprise ueerrrg

I love homemade jelly and the Spanish almond butter

Marlene replied: Peanut butter. I’m not a jelly fan.

Kristi replied: Peanut Butter. Definitely! My favorite peanut butter to eat is called Naturally More. It’s soooo good. I will buy a jar of jelly and it takes me forever to eat it. It’s not that I don’t like it, but I always choose other things. Once in a while, a small amount of jelly spread on a saltine is rather good, though.

I love Nutella. And I just found out about Nutella Pie. I’ve gotta try that.

Lori replied: I love rasberry jelly on whole wheat pita bread. I also love blueberry and strawberry jelly too.

But I love peanut butter. I could eat it right from the spoon and I could just eat the whole jar. But I have to be really careful because for some reason my skin breaks out when I eat too much and too much is more than 2 tablespoons. Wonder if it’s the natural oil in peanuts because my skin breaks out from eating too many peanuts too.

Sometimes our discussions are just fun like the peanut butter or jelly question, but I chose this particular question for a reason. When you take the time to get to know each other, it isn’t just the big things, it is the little things. Will we remember them all? No, but the longer you know someone, the more that the sum of the facts make up the whole person. This is true especially online.

After chatting with these ladies every day, answering questions, joining in discussions and reading their blogs, it becomes very easy to know and care for them. Having friends takes effort and an open mind. One must be willing to not only receive, but to also give unselfishly. You know what? It is well worth the effort.

I’m so glad that I’ve been able to get to know these lovely ladies and encourage you to jump right in and chat with all of us in my community.

For everyone mentioned in the top nine this week, feel free to grab the Rockin’ Friend badge below and thank you for your participation!!

I can totally relate to this post. I woke up this morning to a note on my dresser which led me to a beautiful hand made card on my desk which asked me to go to the fridge to find out who left me my Valentine card. I feel loved today even if it's not from a spouse, it's the love that a mom and 3 beautiful children share. And for today, that's enough for me. I am blessed!! I am blessed each and every day of my life!

    Happy Valentine's Day Red!

    Dear Red,
I purposely stopped by today to send you love wishes on this day. It was yesterday here in my country, but I know where you live, it is still valentine's day evening.

Loved what you wrote here. And the pink hearts are beautiful.

I completely agree with what you wrote. Love is such a healing balm, and all of us need a healthy dose of it every day. Not just between "lovers"… but from one heart to another.

Don't know why you came to my heart today when I was thinking of blog friends to greet today. Of course I could not possible visit everyone. But here I am. Prayin for you, and sending you heart felt wishes of joy, hope, peace, courage and strength today.

    Much love
    Lidj
