Rockin’ Friends Spotlight – Differences

By Sherry Riter 7 Comments

“Friends will write me letters. They run out of room on the front of the letter. They write “over” on the bottom of the letter. Like I’m that much of a moron. Like I need that there. Because if it wasn’t there, I’d get to the bottom of the page: “And so Kathy and I went shopping and we…” That’s the craziest thing! I don’t know why she would just end it that way.”
~Ellen DeGeneres~

Every human being is different than the next. It is just a fact of existence.

With all the differences in play between us, how do we get along with one another and what does it take to do so?

No, this isn’t a beauty pageant and I’m not saying that we will immediately have world peace. I do, however, believe that we can make our own world a place that peaceful co-existence isn’t just a bunch of words.

Let’s take a look at nature and admire its beauty.

I see a forest growing out of the ground that is cut by a creek. In the creek there are rocks, boulders and running water. The water is teeming with fish which is only matched by the number of bugs in the deep undergrowth and trees of the forest.

Each element is different and offers its own value to the scene.

Perspective determines which is the most important and that varies from person to person. Neither feature in the photograph has to proclaim its importance or necessity to the other elements.

It is called co-existence.

I think nature works together well and I often admire and marvel how everything works so well together creating awesome beauty regardless of the differences.

The respect we have and show for differences in our friends is the crucial element in having peace between us. When friends solve their problems and continue caring for one another, the relationship is truly beautiful. As a society, we honor friendships and speak of them frequently because they add value to our lives.

Working through disputes caused by our differences in a peaceful manner makes us better and happier people. Isn’t happiness and inspiring friendships the goal? What do you do when there is a conflict with your friends?

“We all take different paths in life, but no matter where we go, we take a little of each other everyhwere.”
~Tim McGraw~

This is the weekly post where I spotlight my Rockin’ Friends who are the Top Nine active participants and loyal followers in my community! If you want to be mentioned here next week, then all it takes is to come in and start chatting with everyone in my community.

With a big thank you for their participation and friendship, here are the Rockin’ Friends this week in order of most participation:

  • Katlupe at Homesteading on the Internet
  • Lori at Lori’s LOLz
  • Jamie at Avant Garde Parenting
  • Marlene at Marlene’s Many Hats
  • Kristi at The Child Sensitive Communication Grid
  • Cristina at Happily A Law Mama
  • Jennifer at Living A Changed Life
  • Kim at The Zany Housewife
  • Amanda at La Blondie Peruana

This week the special spotlight is shining on Cristina of Happily a Law Mama which will soon change to Is There a Doctor in the House?. Cristina’s “About Me” is as follows:

“I’m a recent law school graduate who decided four days before taking the bar that she wanted to do something else with her life: teach and later become a principal. I’m married to a fourth year medical student. We had our first child, a beautiful little girl six days after I graduated from law school. This is our journey.”

The first post that I read today on Cristina’s blog told us all about her first kiss. But I don’t think her kiss was with the “typical” guy…

My first kiss was in 8th grade to K.E. He was CUTE and wore Nautica cologne. Oh yeah, a recipe for an 8th grade crush. It was a good first kiss, thankfully. It was, cliche I know, at the movies. He asked permission to kiss me so I obliged since he was such a gentleman! Imagine my surprise when I was looking through the newspaper in 10th grade and saw him as a model in the Target ads! Not bad for your first kiss huh?

I immediately felt a kinship with Cristina because she loves chocolate and she also finds it hard to stop eating things with chocolate in them. I can’t imagine anyone feeling that way, can you? Well, she also likes desserts and posted one of my favorite recipes too.

I haven’t mentioned that Cristina has a very cute baby and even if you don’t like babies all that much, when you see Liliana’s cute face when she gets her ears pierced you will have to admit that she is just a cutie pie. By the way Cristina, OUCH!

Cristina has also discovered a full proof method of getting her child to fall asleep in her crib without crying. Sounds like a miracle doesn’t it?

Also, I am sure you will want to see these pictures and this one because it will bring back sweet memories for all the mothers. Then we can all wait and wonder how long her cute baby closet remains this tidy after Liliana learns how to walk. And let me just say, CONGRATULATIONS on such a great accomplishment. I know how hard you worked to make it happen.

I’m so glad that I’ve been able to get to know Cristina better since she has become active in my community and by reading her blog. Be sure to add Happily a Law Mama to your blogroll, but also come over and chat with Cristina in my community.

The community challenge this week was fun, exciting and had the same prize as before. I love these challenges! Thank you to all the participants for working so hard at making the community a success. Without you, I would be sitting there all alone with just my nerdy self. Did that give you a scary visual? (laughing my head off) Seriously though, BIG hugs from me!

The three winners in the challenge are:

  • Katlupe at Homesteading on the Internet
  • Lori at Lori’s LOLz
  • Jamie at Avant Garde Parenting

Congratulations to Katlupe, Lori and Jamie!
