Yesterday Alyssa had some money that was burning a hole in her pocket, so I took her to try on clothes. You know how much I love shopping…NOT! Being the good mother that I am, I put on a smile and enjoyed her company albeit in a store. Unlike me, she was like a happy little butterfly flitting all over with a shirt here and a shirt there.
I thought I would make the most of the situation and get a pair of gloves since vacation ends and Monday is almost upon us. I can’t be a hermit any more. I looked through the store and found what I thought was the cutest pair of gloves in black. At first I didn’t really understand the button, but after trying them on it became apparent.
These gloves are made especially for texting! You simply button up/back the ends of the glove on the index finger and thumb leaving bare skin exposed thus providing the ability to hit keys on a phone accurately. Isn’t that just so nifty? Can you imagine trying to explain this to your great-great grandparents?
I stared at the gloves on my hands and thought about how nerdy they were, but nerdiness never stopped me before now.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw Alyssa, the queen of fashion do’s and don’ts, approaching.
“Alyssa, aren’t these just so cute. Guess what this button does?”
She is watching me as I flip the ends of the glove back off my finger and button it. Then I do the same for my thumb.
“They are for texting!” she exclaimed in appreciation. “Buy them,” she said, “so that I can borrow them sometimes.”
She then proceeds to tell me that she loves the gloves with the fingers out to the knuckle, but she really thinks the gloves that I am holding are cool.
I have news for her…they are nerdy. I didn’t break it to her then and unless she reads this blog, I’m not going to tell her.
Why?
Well, I bought a pair for her and I bought a pair for me too. When we got home I surprised her and said, “You don’t have to share…we both have a pair now.”
Sooooooo you might be a nerd if you have texting gloves.
Obviously, there is a Mommy Nerd and a Teenage Nerd living at my house. That’s a lot of nerdiness for one home.
Chances are
you’ll end up working for one.”

My oldest son was complaining about the stellar students at school when he was in high school. "All they do is study – they don't have a life," he said. "You'll be working for them one day," my husband answered. LOL However, the extra-curricular leadership activities he was involved in did make a difference.
I am wanting to knit a pair of gloves like your daughter was talking about – I'd love a pair of those! I think they would be so "cool" "awesome" – but then that's a woman my age saying it – I saw the cutest pair today -I'm going to give it a try!
Happy new Year Red!
