Bubba and The Traffic Camera

By Sherry Riter 13 Comments

traffic light camera

My friend Bubba was driving in Charlotte a few weeks ago when he saw the flash of a traffic camera. He figured that his picture had been taken for exceeding the limit, even though he knew that he was not speeding. Just to be sure, Bubba went around the block and passed the same spot, driving even more slowly, but again the camera flashed.

Now he began to think that this was quite funny, so he drove even slower as he passed the area again, but the traffic camera again flashed.

Bubba tried a fourth time with the same result.

He did this a fifth time and was now laughing when the camera flashed as he rolled past, this time at a snail’s pace….

Two weeks later, he got five tickets in the mail for driving without a seat belt.

Crash Test DummyI’m dedicated to wearing my seat belt 100% of the time. I’ve witnessed the tragedy caused by the lack of a properly worn seat belt. My grandmother used to pull the seat belt out and across her body and right before the two ends clicked together, she would stuff and hold it under her leg. To a police officer, she appeared to be wearing it correctly.

If you don’t currently practice safe driving by using your seat belt properly, please commit today to do so. Tell us all in a comment that you are starting a new life saving habit. If you do wear your seat belt, has there ever been a time that it has saved your life?

When I had a wreck at 16 the officer said it helped to save my life. I think they tell everyone that, but I always wear it anyway.

Wearing a seatbelt is a no brainer for us! We have five kids. Who the heck is going to fill in for us should we be unable?

    Yeah…that's what I thought!

Anyway..is that a TRUE story? If so…that is the funniest damn thing EVER. Minus the not wearing the seatbelt part. Hope you gave your friend a stern talking to. Better yet…post his email or cell phone. We can all leave a him a gentle reminder!!

I started wearing a seat belt when my daughter was four. It was the only way to get her to wear her belt, she's now forty. So this was well before the law required us to wear our seat belts. Now, I feel naked if I don't have it one! Funny lesson in the funny story!

Ok, totally didn't see where that was going and now I'm laughing out loud. I sooooo needed that.

I am a seatbelt fanatic! Always have been since I was a kid. In fact in high schoool a friend of mine was driving me home. I annoyed him into putting on his seatbelt (which he never did). Anyway, he dropped me off and took off for home. Was hit by another driver on his way home, flipped his car and is only alive because he was wearing it. Oh yeah, I saved his life (ok, the belt helped) and his wife and 3 sons thank me for it today.

    Happy SITS Saturday Sharefest!

Wonderful site you have here. Can't wait to come back and look around.

That's too funny that he decided to drive through 5 times, but reassuring that the camera could spot someone not only speeding (even though he was not) but not wearing their seatbelt.

I totally agree about the seat belts. I was "bubba" 3 different times. At the time there were no "cameras" but I got stopped 3 times. (You'd think I'd get the picture). Anyway, The first ticket was 40+ dollars, the second 60 and the third 93. Needless to say, I now wear my seatbelt all the time, and if carrying a passenger, I won't put the car in drive until they do.

    Great post.

    Love ya!

Funny, but sad…there is really no good excuse for not wearing your seat belt. It takes 2 seconds to put it on…faster than applying lipstick or putting on your pants belt.

GREAT POST!! I started wearing my seatbelt after watching a really gory video during Drivers Ed in high school. Then, as a Paramedic, it only became reinforced after seeing tons of people hurt and/or killed in Motor Vehicle Accidents (MVAs) every year because they were unrestrained. Many people who don't wear their seatbelt say they are afraid they might become trapped inside their vehicle during an accident if they wear their seatbelt. However, that fear, (or often just a poor excuse) is baseless and often turns out to be deadly! I have worked thousands upon thousands of Motor Vehicle Accidents and I have never once unbuckled a dead person. You are a thousand times more likely to get thrown from a vehicle during a crash than you are to get trapped inside your vehicle because you are wearing your seatbelt.

Thanks for doing this post and reminding everyone to buckle up! It is ALWAYS important but it is especially important at this time of year when there are so many drunk drivers out on the road after holiday parties.

I hope you are enjoying a wonderful weekend!
