I’m sure you’ve been here.
Half my life has passed and if I’m lucky I will live an equal amount more.
My past is speckled with things I wish I could forget.
My soul is scarred from painful experiences I wish I had never suffered.
My heart has been broken.
My future looks full of the unknown which I fear will be lonely and sad.
I know every day can’t be whipped cream with a cherry on top no matter how hard I wish for it.
Today I feel unaccomplished, broken and useless.
I initially sat down to surf the web and find things to help me feel better and kick myself back into shape and I happened upon You Tube. Considering that this video has been viewed 42,864,445 times, I’m sure you have already seen it. This is a powerful song.
It is all my motivational quotes rolled into one;
every wish I have whispered into an empty room;
every prayer I have ever prayed;
every tear I have cried into my pillow;
every lonely minute I had to bear;
and encompasses a message I want my daughter to remember when all she can do is sob from the sorrow she is experiencing and I’m not able to be there to hold her.
- The Climb
Songwriters: Jessi Alexander and her partner John Mabe
I can almost see it
That dream I am dreaming
But there’s a voice inside my head saying
“You’ll never reach it”
Every step I’m taking
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaken
But I gotta keep trying
Gotta keep my head held high
There’s always gonna be another mountain
I’m always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I’m gonna have to lose
Ain’t about how fast I get there
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb
The struggles I’m facing
The chances I’m taking
Sometimes might knock me down
But no, I’m not breaking
I may not know it
But these are the moments that
I’m gonna remember most, yeah
Just gotta keep going
And I, I got to be strong
Just keep pushing on
‘Cause there’s always gonna be another mountain
I’m always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I’m gonna have to lose
Ain’t about how fast I get there
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb, yeah!
There’s always gonna be another mountain
I’m always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Somebody’s gonna have to lose
Ain’t about how fast I get there
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb, yeah!
Keep on moving, keep climbing
Keep the faith, baby
It’s all about, it’s all about the climb
Keep the faith, keep your faith, whoa
I’ve watched the video, read the words and added my few words to the annals of time.
Tomorrow is a new day.
A better day.
I’ll keep remembering the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson:
- “Finish each day and be done with it.
You have done what you could;
some blunders and absurdities have crept in;
forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day;
you shall begin it serenely
and with too high a spirit
to be encumbered with your old nonsense.

My old nonsense. That fits.
Honey, this post resonates SO deeply with me. EVERY WORD OF IT. Thank you for saying this. I am in the middle of a messy divorce and battled with lawyers yet again today. I really needed to see this. Thank you. Thank you.

I literally JUST finished watching The Hannah Montana movie and she sings that song at the end and I love it. It truly is such a great song. I hope that things start looking up for you. And I love the sunset pictures at the end. 🙂

I love that Emerson quote. Some blunders and absurdities have crept in. That makes it all seem so trivial (which it IS – in the grand scheme of things).
Climb that mountain, baby. And the next one after it.
Hang tough, mama…

I am not a fan of Miley's, but the first time I heard that song I was completely impressed. It's a more grown up song for her and I think adults and younger people can identify with it. The sunset pics are beautiful!

Seing as I'm not a pop kind of guy I have to admit that this was a classy song with a positive message, how often do those come around? I really like those lyrics, powerful stuff to be inspired by when you are down and out.

Uplifting post! We've all been there. I always say life is a classroom and some of us are on the gifted tract…more challenging curriculum to meet our higher intellect.
Well, it makes me feel better!

Amen! Life IS a struggle.
In the Bible, Jesus says, Don't look back. I try to follow those words when old memories start to haunt me.
I love this song, it is such a strong statement.
Thank you once again for a great post.

This is why I love country music…there is always a song that sums up any situation. I am glad you found your song of uplift. Mine is Lee Ann Womack's I Hope You Dance.
I hope you are dancing today after such a bad yesterday.

Oh, I'm having "one of those days" today. Tonight watching TV (I don't remember what) I heard a quote… to paraphrase "My story is a long one. I have time." That combined with this song makes me feel so much better. I'm always in a hurry for things to be perfect, but days like this are just part of "my story". 🙂
