Never Say Never

Art

I am almost speechless…

I thought inhaling Alice was phenomenal, but today I am amazed by a 25 year old woman with an orange 1960’s Silver Reed 100 typewriter. Her name is Keira Rathbone and she spends up to 90 hours hitting the different keys of the typewriter thousands of times until she has produced a work of art. She only uses about one ink ribbon a year as she types over and over in the same places to produce the shading in her pictures. She constantly winds the paper with her left hand while hitting the keys with her right index finger moving from section to section. Keira does not draw the picture with a pencil first…she just types it from her mind while looking at the object.

Before you laugh, one of her pieces of art sold for £500. For all Americans, I used this great website to convert that to dollars and it turned out to be $848.40!

This first clip is a news report which will make your mouth gape open as you watch her.

The next clip doesn’t have any words. I love typing. I love words. I love being alone. I even like repetitive movements, but if I had to stick around Keira while she typed her art, I WOULD GO CRAZY. Watch this and tell me if you are ever going to think your children aggravate you again…

Here is Keira’s website and gallery: http://www.keirarathbone.com/

Webster’s definition of “succeeding” is “to turn out well or to attain a desired object or end”

Do you think you can succeed in your heart’s desire now that you have watched Keira on her old typewriter?

Action is the foundational key to all success.

Keiras work is absolutely mindblowing.. I was a fine art education major in college an I always was fascinated with pointillism so to speak..It just amazes me how truly talented people are with everyday objects… Pepole who create beautifyl masterpieces with things like etch a sketches, sand, etc…are truly ingenious!!! Great post.. LOL!!the clicking of the typewriter was aggravating maybe thats why shes out in the woods..lol Hugs!!! Natalee

The typewriter noise would make me a little nutty. I wonder if the sound of the keyboard when I really get going makes my husband crazy, lol.

Is it me, or are the British always having a better time? When DH and me visited London last summer, the first thing we noticed was how 'perk' everyone seemed to be. the second thing was their sharp tongues…very witty, but sarcastic.
