Clothespin Recollection

By Sherry Riter Leave a Comment

a clothespin

Some images are just fleeting glances of the moment,
while other images bring the essence of a moment…
the smells…
the warm humid air fragrant with flowers
gently blowing through the window screen
the tastes…
brilliantly colored ripe fruit dripping, squirting and exciting the
mouth with its juices as it tantalizes the tongue with each bite
the sounds…
buzzing bumblebees and tweeting birds excitedly flapping
their wings, flying from flowers and trees and into the sky
the sights…
cheerful colors reflected in the landscape basking in the bright light
of a vivid, sparkling blue sky cushioned with fluffy white clouds
A clothespin.
A single clothespin.
A single clothespin being held in a loving hand.
Memories of days spent leaning on the window sill, face pressed against the
screen or playing around her feet as she steadily continued her task.
Leaning over the basket
taking the clean item on the top.
Wet fabric, gently folded over the line and a single clothespin,
slowly opened and clamped over the wet fabric
Catching the line between the small circular
opening at the end, holding it tightly in place.
All the senses
alive and aware with memories
the smells…
the tastes…
the sounds…
the sights…
The feelings of peace, security, and youthful innocence
of days gone by brought to the forefront of the mind by
A clothespin.
A single clothespin.
A single clothespin being held in a loving hand.
