“If you love somebody, let them go. If they return, they were always yours. If they don’t, they never were.” ~ Unknown~
Eva Cassidy sings a version of “Kathy’s Song” by Simon and Garfunkel. Her voice is soft and more fitting with my thoughts and feelings. The words seem to reach down into my heart and pulls out a piece of my soul…the part that loves with a peaceful and lasting love. One that sees past the weaknesses, pain and fear of another person. One that simply loves.
The line, “There but for the grace of you go I” seems to say that we are all like drops of rain. When you find someone that makes your life more than just a long and weary path to death, you hold onto them. They offer hope and companionship in this lonely world. But when the holding on doesn’t help, you have to let them go. They will either discover they really do want you with a love that is kind, gentle, respectful and honors you both or they will find that they never loved you at all.
Kathy’s Song
by Eva Cassidy
I hear the drizzle of the rain
Like a memory it falls
Soft and warm continuing
Tapping on my roof and walls
My mind’s distracted and confused
My thoughts are many miles away
They lie with you when you’re asleep
Kiss you when you start the day
And as I watch the drops of rain
Weave their weary paths and die
I know that I am like the rain
There before the grace of you go I
Kathy’s Song
by Simon and Garfunkel
I hear the drizzle of the rain
Like a memory it falls
Soft and warm continuing
Tapping on my roof and walls.
And from the shelter of my mind
Through the window of my eyes
I gaze beyond the rain-drenched streets
To England where my heart lies.
My mind’s distracted and diffused
My thoughts are many miles away
They lie with you when you’re asleep
And kiss you when you start your day.
And as a song I was writing is left undone
I don’t know why I spend my time
Writing songs I can’t believe
With words that tear and strain to rhyme.
And so you see I have come to doubt
All that I once held as true
I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you.
And as I watch the drops of rain
Weave their weary paths and die
I know that I am like the rain
There but for the grace of you go I.
