Best Old Fashioned Homemade Lemonade Recipe – Easy Squeezy!

By Sherry Riter 16 Comments

Best Old Fashioned Homemade Lemonade 8

Is there anything more refreshing than old fashioned homemade lemonade on a hot day in the middle of summer? I can’t think of another drink that is as appealing as a cold glass of fresh lemonade. Not only is it refreshing and delicious, but it brings back wonderful memories of fun times with people who love me.

Making lemonade is not a mystery and if you do it from scratch, it will have no preservatives!

It doesn’t take very many ingredients to make the Best Old Fashioned Homemade Lemonade you will ever have the pleasure of drinking.

Thoroughly wash all the lemons with soap and water. Yes, I said soap.

Roll the lemons between your palm and the counter top to make them easier to juice.

Now juice the lemons and set it to the side for a bit.

Pour sugar into a pitcher or mason jar and set it aside.

I actually used two large mason jars – one for Alyssa and one for me. She keeps her jar on the left side of the refrigerator and I keep mine on the right side. When we want some lemonade to drink, we can drink straight out of the mason jar without worrying about anyone else’s germs! Of course, if you do that, you can’t really offer any lemonade to visitors, but you don’t want to share it anyway because it is so good. Oh my! Did I just say that?

Boil one cup of water.

Pour hot water into pitcher or mason jar. Stir until sugar is dissolved.

Best Old Fashioned Homemade Lemonade 7

Add lemon juice and cold water. If in the pitcher, stir thoroughly. If in a mason jar, put the lid on it and shake well.

Best Old Fashioned Homemade Lemonade 10

Cut a slice of lemon about 1/4 inch thick. Put a slit in the slice of lemon half way through – from the edge of the lemon to the center. Put the sliced lemon over the edge of a glass.

Best Old Fashioned Homemade Lemonade 9

Pour the fresh squeezed lemonade over ice in a glass.

Mmmmmm….so refreshing!

Of course, there is no reason to throw away the lemons that you juiced. Plop them all into your soapy dish water. The water will smell so good. You can also put them in a pan that has baked on stuff that needs to be scrubbed off. Just add water and lemons to the pan and let it sit for a bit.

Besides, putting the lemons in the dish water just feels like I am a child playing instead of an adult working. You know what I mean?

Anyway, I hope you enjoy a fresh squeezed glass of lemonade soon. Don’t you have memories attached to good times in the summer with big frosted glasses of lemonade?

Your comment made me smile. My grandmother always said, “a mess” meaning “a whole bunch” just like you did. 🙂

The mason jar trick works so great! Just shake, shake, shake! LOL

Yep! By boiling the water, all the sugar melts and you don’t have any crunchy sugar in the bottom of the glass. 😉 Thank you for visiting my website and I’m so glad you are enjoying it!
