You started a blog.

Quite happy with your first post, you decided to venture out to other blogs.

You made a comment on their posting and Google follow that blog.

Two weeks passed and you finally got around to writing another post.

Then you go to a forum and write, “Why can’t I get traffic to my blog?”

Before I tell you why you don’t have traffic, let me share something with you about Spider-Man.

Who Is Spider-Man?

Just in case someone on the planet doesn’t know, Spider-Man is a fictional Marvel Comics superhero created by writer-editor Stan Lee and writer-artist Steve Ditko. His first appearance was in the comic book called Amazing Fantasy #15 in August of 1962.

Spider-Man has some amazing characteristics which include:

• Superhuman strength which enables him to lift 10 tons
• 15 times more agile than normal people
• Clings to most surfaces
• Shoots spider-webs
• Acrobatic leaps
• Spider-sense to danger with quick reaction time

Spider-Man uses these abilities to make the world a better place by fighting criminals and bringing them to justice.

 

How To Blog Like Spider-Man

Humans do not have special powers like Spider-Man, but in order to get traffic to you blog, it requires stepping it up a notch. The blogger who said, “Why can’t I get traffic to my blog?” had not put in any extra effort or even great thought into the blog or process.

 

Superhuman Strength

Spider-Man has superhuman strength and a blogger needs to work hard at blogging. That means if you go off to a regular job, have twelve children, a demanding spouse, you will have to sit down late at night and blog until you practically fall asleep on the desk.

Why?

Mainly because you need to blog a minimum of 5-7 times a week at least until you have built up a following. Yes, I heard you! Somewhere you read that “it isn’t necessary to blog every day,” but it is if you want to start getting traffic as a new blogger. I don’t care where you read it or who said it. Writing consistently is absolutely necessary and that is just a fact.

 

More Agile

Being agile means that you have the ability to move with quick, easy grace and have a quick, resourceful and adaptable character.

Being a Spider-Man blogger if you are not able to afford someone to do everything else for you, requires that you not only write, but also to learn to market, take great photos, program in HTML, and move from one task to another with speed.

While everyone else is sleeping, you will have to sit at the computer and learn that placing one “

 

Clings To Most Surfaces

Spider-Man and fingerprints cling to most surfaces. Bloggers need to cling to many web pages. Seek out other blogs and websites where you can add value by making a comment. Even making comments to say you appreciate the HTML advice on a computer blog is good blog marketing. Besides, everyone needs to feel appreciated.

So be seen by commenting.

Comment everywhere!

 

Shoot Spider-webs

People are everywhere and there is at least one human behind every website or blog. Get to know and network with other bloggers. Shoot the spider-webs long and far to bring them closer to you.

Don’t network just to gain numbers or it won’t happen. People do not like it when you are obviously trying to use them and completely insincere. There are many places that you can “advertise” your blog for free without being annoying.

For instance…at the end of each of the teaching posts I write on Sunday (like this one), I provide a Linky at the bottom to enter your blog URL. Not only can you put the main URL of your blog, but I offer the opportunity to put every post you write during the week in the Linky.

Do a lot of people take advantage of that Linky? Umm, no. So when someone writes me and says, “How do I get traffic to my blog?” my first thought is, “Why aren’t you putting your blog in the Linky every day?” You can find food, decorating and contest Linkies all over the place, but one just for any of your blog posts is rare. If you are not entering your blog in the Linky and then making a comment to draw people’s attention to YOU, then how serious do you think I take your question? I’m just being honest with my thoughts ya’ll!

Another example of great networking is being involved in forums and communities. Not only will you be able to advertise your blog, but you will also learn from others and make friends. Do I really have to tell you how important it is to have friends? Just on a human level, friends are priceless.

Weave the spider-webs all over the internet by building relationships and taking advantage of freely advertising your blog every opportunity you can find.

 

Acrobatic Leaps

My daughter is the acrobat and I’m not. She can do splits, flip and all forms of calisthenics. I whine if I have walk fast. However, if you sit us both down at the computer, I can run circles around her and she doesn’t even care because it just isn’t her “thing”.

Blogging and all that it involves has to be your “thing” if you are going to be successful. Define success for yourself. If you only want to get your thoughts down and make a few friends, then shooting far reaching spider-webs and learning HTML does not have to be part of your life. Having friends and a cute blog is success for you.

If your goal is to have lots of traffic and make money, then blogging needs to be a “thing” that you take acrobatic leaps in accomplishing daily. Learn something every day. Stretch!

You must have a constant drive to learn more, gain more and be more of a “better” blogger.

 

Spider-Sense To Danger And Quick Reaction Time

You may have a fantastic idea, so you post it on your blog expecting everyone else to love it too.

No one likes it.

No one comments.

No one visits.

Blogging with spider-sense means that although you think or even know that your idea is fantastic, you are willing to change directions quickly. Having a quick reaction time to changes that will improve your blogging experience is necessary when building traffic.

Be different, but be willing to know that some of your differences won’t be embraced by the masses and make changes accordingly.

 

Spider-Man Makes The World Better

It’s a big world and a large internet, but it isn’t that big. If you do or expose something inappropriate or too far over the edge, be ready for a backlash of disapproval. You may get a temporary surge in popularity, but it isn’t the kind you really want to have online.

The goal to blogging is the same as Spider-Man’s – make the world a better place by adding value. Nothing feels as good as helping other people and in making their burdens lighter even for a brief time during the day.

I just told a friend today that “Life is tough,” and that is really putting it mildly. Life is REALLY tough and connecting with others that share your view makes the experience happier. No matter what your niche or purpose in blogging, in one way or the other the hope is to connect with other people and to give or sell them something that will improve their life and in turn yours also.

I think Spider-Man would agree that blogging can make the world a better place and also the people behind the blogs. Look at your blog and life objectively. Decide what the purpose is for writing it. Be realistic about your goals.

If you decide that you want a lot of traffic and to make money with the words you write on the internet, then quite simply put, you need to blog like Spider-Man.
