I’ve often heard and said, “What’s good for the goose is good for the gander,” however, I don’t think it is always true.
For a little bit of clarification:
- a female goose is called a “goose” or a “hen”
- a male is called a “gander”
- a group of geese is called a “gaggle of geese” or a “flock of geese”
Do I believe that what is good for a woman is good for a man and vice versa?
My quick retort, “No way!”
We could also apply this same principle to friendship. Is what’s good for one friend, good for the other friend?
Ev-v-v-veryone is different. Each person has their own set of strengths and weaknesses. Just look around. People do not look like each other and they have unique characteristics physically as well as mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
Ever since I was sixteen, I’ve had a male friend (Roland) who has always just been a friend. I know that most people believe that men and women can not just be friends, but take it from me, our friendship has always been purely just friendship. We have lived in separate states for twenty nine of the thirty one years we have know each other and it didn’t hamper our friendship. As time has passed, I’ve grown to love him like a brother.
Does that mean when Alyssa got a new pair of shoes, I jumped on the phone and called Roland to tell him about about them?
Ummm…no. He just wouldn’t have been able to muster any excitement over a pair of shoes. However, if I purchased a John Deere tractor, it would be a totally different story.
This is very random, but every time I hear the words “John Deere,” I think of the song by Joe Diffie called “John Deere Green.”

I think it must be my country roots taking over again.
Anyway, you get the point. What is good for the goose is not always good for the gander. The same is true with a blog and the people who write them. Everything that works for one person won’t work for the next creative writer.
Blogs have a vast array of elements, designs, subject matter and writing styles. The first step in writing a blog is deciding on the goal or mission statement of your blog and how you want it all to come together in the design.
Last week we learned all about RSS feeds. At the Other Stuff blog, you can learn about icons and find many links to RSS feed icon images for your blog.
This week I want you to remember that it is perfectly fine to have your blog reflect you and not someone else. Diversity keeps the internet interesting! Choose the background and icons that fit your personality and the purpose of your blog. I always feel “at home” when I pull my blog up on the monitor and that encourages me to relax and write.

Hi goosefacts! It truly is a gaggle of geese as long as they are not in flight. Check out this link definition of gaggle
If there a bunch of geese flying, it is called a skein. That makes me think of yarn!!! LOL

Weird I always thought a group of geese was known as a Grapple. It makes much more logical sense than calling them a Gaggle.
I would be interested to know if Webster was also triple verified, with so many words on that website I find it hard to believe they are an expert on all of them!
When I was younger, I thought it would be lovely to marry Merriam-Webster. Of course, I was so young that I didn't understand that when you hypenate two last names for a business, it usually meant it was two separate people. It is fun reading about "Who is Merriam-Webster?" If I wanted to marry them, I think I was born just a tad too late LOL

In my diet blog, I mention that all the time too. Just because I lost almost 140 pounds with one method doesn't mean it will work for everyone. Everyone has to find what works for themself.
Thanks for these ongoing, insightful tips on improving our blogs! It's true, not everyone is going to enjoy or understand the content, but we need to be ourselves.
The amazing thing about blogs is that we do have complete creative freedom! While increasing traffic is important, I'm going to keep being me and eventually I'll find my niche.
Also, I think that women and men can be friends. A lot of my closest friends are guys; they're like brothers to me. 🙂
