I love tractors. I’m really just a country girl at heart . Tractors and big open crops in the field with cows mooing in the barn. That’s country.
One of my fondest memories with my dad was when I was just about five years old. My dad and I went to my great grandparents house to collect some pine straw to put in the flower beds at our house. “Pine straw” used to be the hot item to use the way “cedar chips” are today. Anyway, we had to use the tractor to haul the straw to the truck. Dad had told me stories about riding the tractor when he was little working on the farm. While we were working that Saturday, he plopped me up on the tractor seat. I remember thinking it was so high, but I was so excited because he was letting me drive! Dad was on the side of the tractor pushing the accelerator pedal and gently guiding the steering wheel when needed. I was forever hooked.
Since we live in the city now, we “go to the country” type events around the area so that Alyssa can have a country experience. I want her to see the simple life and enjoy the peacefulness of it.
This is one of my favorite songs and I am sure that most of you will think the video clip is as exciting as Lethal Weapon (Not!), but it has the “post appropriate song” on it. Come on now, just click it and listen to the song especially if you haven’t ever heard it before – it will widen your horizons!
On one of our outings, we went for a ride in the “country” and happened upon a BIG piece of farm equipment. Well, it was none other than John Deer Green. Alyssa just “had” to sit on it, so it made the perfect photo opportunity.
In the spirit of my farm owning ancestors with their hidden moonshine in the barn, I want to show you some “country” and let you listen to some (and I don’t mean crickets and bullfrogs.) There’s square dancing and then there’s tractor square dancing, but you haven’t ever seen anything like Tractor Square Dancing (click here)
I’m sitting here laughing because I know my mom is going to totally dislike everything in this post except for the picture of my daughter! Mom had to pick cotton, peas, corn, etc. (you name it, she has picked it or dug it out of the ground) and had to do this the whole time she was growing up to help the family on the farm. Of course, back then, jeans were worn as work clothes and she had to wear them too. Mom absolutely hated wearing “unfeminine” jeans and overalls and after she grew up, she just stopped wearing them. Guess who STILL doesn’t own and wear jeans? Hard to imagine someone that doesn’t like jeans!!! Anyway, I think it is impossible for her to get excited about a tractor whether it is John Deere Green or alien purple with pink polka dots.
the one present moment
that goes by so quick
you can hardly catch it going.

Your Mom may not today's entry, but I love it…AND jeans! My brother thinks John Deere tractors are the epitome of farm machinery.

No, I haven't seen nor heard of tractor square dancing until now. After this, I don't think anything will surprise me anymore. ๐

I love the country too. I wore nothing but jeans while in school. But you can tell your mom she's not alone, I haven't owned a pair of jeans for many years.

I have fond memories of my grandpa on the farm and my grandma still lived there. But I need to be close to the mal, LOL.

I just found you by way of Margaret's NGIP and I think we might have a little in common not the least of which is alliteration. I can't wait to read more of your blog.

My summers were spent on my grandfathers ranch, branding cows, going on roundups, DRIVING TRACTORS, making homemade noodles and pies with grandma. Those were the days. Thanks for reminding me of them!

I love tractors and the country. Both my husband and I are from smaller towns and therefore could never live in the suburbs for life. Are heart is settled to live where you can smell the diary cows from a mile away ๐

I'm a country girl, but funnily enough we never had tractors. My father used to use horses for all the heavy work. At haymaking time we'd hire contractors. I do enjoy checking out the machinery at the agricultural shows though. We have the "Dancing Diggers" that perform to music. That's always fun. Loved your post. ๐

Oh yeah, I've heard that song before.
And I've picked peas, butterbeans, and okra.
But I still wear my jeans.
Thank you for awarding Teresa at toomanyheartbeats a blog award; she deserves it.
Have a lovely week!
Sweet dreams.

Being the Tractor Mom I am, I am offended that you didn't choose "International Harvester" by Craig Morgan!! That's a TRUE tractor song.
And to think that you put your child on a GREEN tractor…God forbid!! I'll just have to say a LOT of extra prayers for those poor girls! They must learn that GREEN is for crops, RED is for tractors!!
Come by when you can…
